Spring Branch Multicultural Parade
volunteers - past, present and future - are invited to
Volunteer Appreciation Night Friday, Sept. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m.
at Bayou City Wings, 7922 Long
Point
There'll be free finger food, door prizes, a cash bar
and an opportunity to sign up as a volunteer for this year's
parade, scheduled for Oct. 2, according to Victor Alvarez,
chairman of the Spring Branch Multicultural Fest and
Parade.
The parade,
which promotes a spirit of community and an appreciation for
its diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds, history and
shared future, is presented in association with the Spring
Branch Super Neighborhoods, the city of Houston and Wal-Mart
Neighborhood Market.
"It 's a family-oriented day and
we rely on the participation of the entire community to make
it a success," Alvarez said.
Theme of the 2004 parade
is "Cherished Memories." The parade will start at 10 a.m.,
rain or shine, in front of the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market on
Long Point at Wirt and proceed west along Long Point to St.
Peter's Church at Campbell Road.
Prizes will be given
for the best floats in four categories. A $2,000 cash prize
will be awarded for the best floats representing a Spring
Branch civic association and Spring Branch float. Winners will
be announced at the conclusion of the parade. The over-all
non-professional, non-commercial winner and the best
professional/commercial float will receive
trophies.
But you don't need a float in order to
participate in the parade. Residents are also encouraged to
don clothes that might have been worn by Spring Branch
settlers and walk the 1.6-mile parade route.
