Parade entry deadline extended
09/16/2004
The registration date for entering a float in the 2004 Spring Branch Multicultural Parade has been extended to Sept. 24 for the Oct. 2 parade, according to Victor Alvarez, chairman of the multicultural festival committee.

Alvarez also announced that the committee has added $2,000 in prizes for the top three floats entered by a public or private school in the Memorial/Spring Branch area.

The first-place float will receive $1,000, second-place $700 and third-place $300. Each also will receive a trophy.

Civic associations and churches also may win prizes for the top three floats in their category.

The prize schedule is the same as for the school winners: $1,000 for first, $700 for second and $300 for third. Each will receive a trophy as well.

In addition, trophies will be awarded to the overall winner in the non-professional, non-commercial category and the overall winner in the professional or commercial category.

The awards will be presented after the parade ends in front of St. Peter's Church at Long Point and Campbell. The parade will begin at 10 a.m., rain or sh ine, at Wirt and Long Point in front of the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market.

The theme of this year's parade is "Cherished Memories." Judging will be based on creativity, originality, artistic beauty, craftsmanship and special effects.

All floats must be in place by 9 a.m. in order to be considered f or an award. Judges are independent with no links to Spring Branch parade officials or participants.
